tribute album recording experience

- Daniel Carew

.

Well here it is, finally! It's funny how this whole thing got started. I actually wanted to record this song before I even heard of the Tanya tribute cd. My sister was getting married and I wanted to give her something she'd always remember. So I decided to record a song. It had to be approppriate to play at a wedding, sound good, and given my ability, relatively easy to play. So naturally I started flipping through every Tanya/Belly/Muses song I could find. And when I heard "These Days" I knew it was the one. I got a few friends, who happen to be professional musicians, to help me out. We never played together but 3 hours and a case of beer later, we came up with the finished product.

The funniest part about the recording was how I kept screwing up the beginning of the song because it's in some really weird timing. So at the end of the night we really needed to redo the beginning. But since I know absolutely nothing about reading music or counting time, my friend Kyle, who plays keyboard, would dance around to the beat of the music and wave his arms like crazy when it was time for me to play! Anyway, we had a lot of fun and I couldn't have done it without the help of a few friends!
