Unfortunately, after releasing just two major label albums (under Sire/Reprise), Star and King, members of Belly have splintered off to do their own thing. .Tanya Donelly went on to record her first solo album, Lovesongs for Underdogs, Gail Greenwood has joined L7 as their new bassist, Tom Gorman is playing guitar for Buffalo Tom, and Chris Gorman is now into visual arts - doing photography & stuff. . 
There has been a lot of speculation on what caused the demise of Belly.. Some believe it was the disappointing sales of their sophomore effort King, which failed to maintain the momentum of the Grammy-nominated Gold album, Star (Although many people thought that King was better than Star, including the author of this site).. Others say the clashing of styles was the problem - .they couldn't get along musically anymore.. No matter what the reason, the fact still remains... One of the best alternative rock bands is no more.
